RACC Project Grant and More

How does one receive a RACC grant?  Apparently, in the mail - or at least that’s how I got mine yesterday!  Yipee!!  This is my first time receiving a RACC grant.

The grant money will help fund my solo exhibition at Beppu Wiarda Gallery in July 2009.  The project funded is for a series of paintings inspired by poems from a book of poems titled Flying at Night by Ted Kooser, Nebraskan Poet Laureate of the United States.

I have already begun work on this series and will keep updating the blog with my progress.

In other news, I was recently invited to be one of 13 artists to participate in “Perceptions of the Past”, a collaborative project pairing selected Oregon poets and artists including Oregon Poet Laureate Lawson Inada.  This project is in celebration of Oregon’s 150 years of statehood and coincides with Sesquicentennial celebrations throughout Oregon in 2009.  The project will be exhibited at the FireHouse Gallery of Rogue Community College, Grants Pass in May 2009, then travel to several universities in the state of Oregon, and finally end up in Rogue Community College’s permanent collection.  I’m excited to work on this project because it is in the same vein as the RACC project and because I have always been interested in poetry and history.
